Forest Harbour Lake House is our family cottage, run by Sheldon Caines. This page explains what personal information we collect when you visit the site, ask a question or book a stay, and how we use and protect it. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

Booking requests: your name, email, phone number, dates, number of adults and children, whether you're bringing a dog or renting the boat, confirmation that the person booking is 25 or older, and any message you write.
Payments: e-Transfers come to us through your bank. Card payments are handled by Stripe, and we never see or store your full card number.
Messages: anything you send us by email, phone, text or WhatsApp.
Site visits: if analytics is turned on, Google Analytics counts visits and pages viewed. It doesn't tell us who you are.
Spam protection: Google reCAPTCHA checks that booking requests come from a person. Google may collect device and browser details to do this.

How we use it

To reply to you, confirm or decline your booking, and send the rental agreement and payment details.
To hold your dates on our booking calendar and manage your stay, including check-in details and the damage deposit.
To keep records we're required to keep, such as tax and payment records.
To understand which parts of the site are useful, using visit counts only.

We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't send marketing emails unless you ask us to.

Where it's kept

Booking requests are stored in our Google account (Gmail and Google Calendar). Payments are processed by your bank or by Stripe. These services may store data outside Canada, including in the United States, under their own security and privacy terms.

How long we keep it

We keep booking details for as long as needed to manage your stay and meet tax and accounting rules, usually up to 7 years for payment records. Requests that don't turn into a booking are deleted within 12 months.

Your choices

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted where we're not required to keep it. Email us and we'll reply within 30 days.
